New uni update

9/1/10

Nike unveiled some new uniforms for both Virginia Tech and Boise State today. Looking at the uniform, I really like how it came together. Black looks cool and the numbers have a circuit board style effect that makes it pop just a little.

Like it or not, it's great that Tech is selected as one of ten programs to participate in this program. If the Hokies weren't part of this program, just as many people would be upset to not be in it. It shows how big of a program Virginia Tech has become.

U.S. Capitol - Game 1 update

So here's the short update with the new desktop. Sorry I took Tyrod down, but I'll be sure to use him again this season for a desktop.

In case you haven't seen it, here's my past update. When I get back from DC on Tuesday, I'll update with photos from the weekend, which will include my first Jimmy Buffett concert on Saturday and my firat trip to Camden Yards in 18 years to see an Orioles game.

See you in DC!

Those first few photos my Dad and I went to the Roanoke City car show. I liked how that first car's paint was "rust" and the Ritchie Evans replica modified car. A few days later, my buddy Nathan and I went to Atlanta to see Stephen Strasburg pitch against the Braves - a game where he pitched well up until the 7th inning.

Not soon after the Braves game, I continued my spotting duties at some races in July. That first July weekend I headed to Daytona for a doubleheader with Dad, my uncle Larry and my buddy Chad. Once again I was on the roof of the Speedway Club building right above victory lane. That's where I took this photo of Dale Jr. winning the Nationwide race.

That's my desktop at work until football season starts. I did buy the diecast of that car just to put it with that awesome photo. I also took a similar picture of Kevin Harvick winning the Firecracker 400 on Saturday night, along with his burnout marks on the frontstretch. After Daytona, I headed to St. Louis again for the Nationwide race and a Cardinals game, where I decked out in my LA Dodgers gear.

Sprinkled in with a few more baseball games - one in Washington and another Dodger game in Atlanta - was my trip to Bristol to help with a SpeedTV show. The show was called Dave Despain on Assignment: Bristol. I helped with the camera crew with Dave's stand-ups and with the production of the show's historical highlights. One thing is for certain, Bristol is way different when nobody is there.

I haven't just been going places to stay busy lately. Below is some of my recent work for Virginia Tech's Athletic Department. No, I didn't design the bobblehead, but I did design the box, which just this week was delivered in Blacksburg. With that, I also designed an "Out and About" ad for ISP to be placed in Blacksburg businesses. Speaking of ISP, I also designed their football program ad for this season.

The two soccer sports posters are now available along with the schedule cards. Be sure to pick those up next time you're in the Merryman Center.

The design work won't stop there. I have a really cool men's basketball poster that I've been working on that I'm sure you're going to like. Working on the hoops stuff already has me excited for the season to get started in November. The home schedule REALLY favors Tech once league play starts up, especially on the weekends. If you have season tix, DON'T sell them and get to Cassell for games.

Yeah, yeah. I know football season does start in less than a month. Don't get me wrong, because I'm like most of you - not being able to get enough of the preseason coverage.

I'm ready for football season to get kicked into high gear. The season starts off with a bang and then we're off and running every weekend. I haven't put the BC game out of possibility, but the Hokies haven't won up there the last two times I've gone, so maybe it's time to sit this one out...maybe.

See you at FedExField in a few weeks.

Stay cool.
